With little more than a shoe box of money and a dream, a handful of educators founded a small Baton Rouge credit union in 1954. Baton Rouge Teachers Federal Credit Union was formed as a cooperative endeavor to serve the financial needs of its members.
In 1900, two brothers named Kean grabbed opportunity by the collar. J. Selby Kean and Frank Kean saw the need for laundering shirt collars, in an era when fashion required detachable collars to be commonly worn by gentlemen, and ladies.

For over 60 years, BREC has built parks for the communities of East Baton Rouge parish. In 2003, an impressive effort was begun by the Parks and Recreation Commission to bring greater quality to the park system and develop outstanding destinations for all of our citizens.
On April 19, 1953, a pioneer in broadcasting signed on as the first television station in Baton Rouge. As a new era in modern communication captivated imaginations across the country, Baton Rouge families crowded around their sets to watch as some of the most endearing personalities anywhere in local television took the lead in bringing the world into their living rooms.
