NEW ORLEANS, LA (WAFB) -

Ouachita Christian started the game fast, using big plays to set up two quick scores on its way to beat West St. John 23-7 in the Class 1A Championship.

OCS quarterback Braden Bristo connected with wide receiver Brice Gillikin for 35 yards to set up the game's first score. The Eagles got on the board with a 8-yard touchdown run by wide receiver Mark Laird on an end-around. The TD put them up 7-0 with 9:30 left in the first quarter.

The Eagles were not done with gaining yards in chuncks, as Bristo hooked up with Laird for a 41-yard strike. The deep pass put OCS on the 5-yard line. Bristo called his own number on the next play and ran it in for a touchdown. OCS went up 14-0, still in the first quarter.

The Eagles then tacked on a 26-yard field goal by Luke Albritton to lead 17-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Rams defense stepped up big in the second quarter, not giving up any more points in the first half.

With Ouachita Christian driving and less than a minute in the half, Deomond Pierce intercepted Bristo to give West St. John the ball.

Three plays later, quarterback Austin Howard found wide receiver Lawrence Williams in the end zone from 28 yards out to put the Rams on the board 17-7.

Both defenses were dominant to start the third quarter, not really giving up much.

However, Ouachita Christian was once again able to find pay dirt. Running back Colby Webb was able to take a handoff 32 yards for a score, picking up blocks from his teammates to make it 23-7 after a missed PAT.
