LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -
Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras celebrated Twelfth Night 2012
at the Civic Center on Friday, Jan. 6 to welcome in the Mardi Gras season.
Mardi Gras crews from the 2011 season dressed in their
elaborate costumes and walked their final walk as Mardi Gras royalty before the
2012 royals take reign.
Vice President of
Mardi Gras for Southwest Louisiana Katie Harrington said the final promenade of
the carnival royals is how the season kicks off.
"It's a really great benefit of living in Southwest
Louisiana," Harrington said of the Mardi Gras festivities. "The holidays don't
end once the new year starts. We have a new thing we just roll into and we keep
the good times rolling!"
The Twelfth Night featured Kings, Queens, Captains, Maids
and the rest of the royals from each crew. The event was open to the community
and people of all ages attended.
"This is truly a community celebration. There is literally
something for everyone from the smallest to the oldest," Harrington said.
The 2012 royal crews haven't been announced yet. The
announcement of this year's crews happens at the private Mardi Gras balls
throughout the season.
