NEW ROADS, LA (WAFB) -
A New Roads man died Tuesday evening after falling from a Mardi Gras parade float.
State Police say James Lee, 58, was riding on the tongue of a float after the New Roads Mardi Gras Parade around 5:30 when he slipped, fell and was run over by the float, as well as a pickup that was following.
Lee was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash happened on LA-10 near LA-420 in Pointe Coupee Parish.
Troopers do not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.
Both drivers submitted breath samples to investigators that showed they had no detectable alcohol in their systems.
