Istrouma High will close at the end of the 2013-14 school year

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The State's Recovery School District has decided to shut down Istrouma High School as part of its changes for the 2014-2015 school year.

The district made the announcement that a number of charter schools will come in to take over existing schools in the Recovery School District.

One of the biggest changes is that Istrouma High School will close down. District Superintendent told those at the meeting that Istrouma will close at the end of the school year and students will have the option to be transferred to Capitol High School.

Friendship Public Charter Schools will operate Capitol High beginning next year and every Istrouma student will be accepted if they choose to attend.

The following is the list of charter schools that will be opening in the upcoming 2014-2015 school year:

Family Urban Schools of Excellence (FUSE), Dalton Elementary, PK – 5. All current students guaranteed continued enrollment

Celerity Educational Group (Celerity), Lanier Elementary, PK – 5. All current students guaranteed continued enrollment

Celerity Educational Group (Celerity), Crestworth Middle School, K-2 and 6-8. All current students guaranteed continued enrollment

Friendship Public Charter Schools, Capitol High School, 9-12. All current students guaranteed continued enrollment

Baton Rouge University Prep (BRUP), Prescott Middle School, BRUP will build a K-5 program one grade at a time, starting with K in the fall of 2014. K All current Prescott Middle School students guaranteed enrollment at Crestworth Middle School, operated by Celerity

Other changes for the 2014-2015 school year:

Glen Oaks Middle School, Transforming for the 2015-2016 school year. All current Glen Oaks Middle School students guaranteed enrollment at Crestworth Middle School starting in the 2014-2015 school year

Istrouma High School, Transforming for the 2015-2016 school year. All current Istrouma High School students guaranteed enrollment at Capitol High School starting in the 2014-2015 school year
